I have this ultimate dream. I want to own a BPO someday. Be it a call center, programming, or CGI processors.
With the today's influx of the different outsourcing companies, it is both amazing and uplifting how some third world nations like the Philippines and India are able to compete globally with other countries. Owing it to the Filipinos' impressive communication skills; the need to survive; and just the vanity of some (hippies), outsourcing business really got into fad especially among the fresh graduates (even the undergrads). It attracts lots of high-payment job seekers like flowers to the bees. I remember a college friend of mine who took shelter in the business when their family faced financial problem. He quit with his studies for a while but is now back to school after establishing himself and sending his sister to college. I too when I graduated had the thoughts of getting into the craze if I couldn't find jobs related to my finished course.
Lots of the same story are everywhere and more and more Filipinos are jumping into the pool of outsourcing business. But while it became the bread and butter for some, there were also pounding concerns raised by the moralist. Some see it as a tool for human exploitation and underemployment. Companies have less expenses without compromising competitiveness. And that is to the commitment of high salary offer. In addition, some health buffs are worried about the effects it will have. However, the call of the hungry stomach is louder. Besides, international outsourcing to the Philippines has helped the economy during the tough times of the last year's so- called, "recession". It attracted foreign investors. And with the help of the booming technology in the country, we were able to widen our business centers. Gone are the days when the notion about competitive salary only spelled Makati, Quezon City, and Manila. Call centers, for one, have sprouted like mushrooms in different areas. In has created ample jobs for Filipinos in the different parts of the country. And it isn't just call centers alone. We also have leveraged on our skilled workforce. Accenture is a good example of how well we have utilized outsourcing.
I believe we can also be a very good player in the said industry like India ( whose growth is attributed to outsourcing) considering our exemplary flexibility skills. We have now started. And what we need to do next is to strategize on how we can address more global issues. Thus, the International Outsourcing Summit is a timely response. We are now on the third gear, if I am to associate it with driving. We must take advantage of this opportunity NOW.
Search Profile Index will be there too at the International Outsourcing Summit this October 26 and 27 at Sofitel Philippine Plaza.
